Daily care of your prosthesis and skin protects you from pain and infection and helps the limb last longer. Here are simple habits we recommend:
Skin care
- Wash the residual limb every day with lukewarm water and mild soap, and dry it well before putting on the limb.
- Check the skin every evening for redness, sores or blisters.
- Bathing in the evening is better: damp skin in the morning can swell inside the socket.
Limb and sock care
- Wipe the inside of the socket daily with a damp cloth and dry it.
- Change your sock or liner every day and wash it as your technician advised.
- If the limb feels loose or tight, do not try to adjust it yourself.
When to visit the center
- Ongoing pain, or a wound that does not heal.
- Unusual noise, wobbling or looseness in the limb.
- A clear change in weight, or a child’s growth.
Our team is here to help with maintenance and adjustments. Visit your nearest center any time.
